Sapling planting in Cowpark – update

20th Feb: The extensive rainfall that we have experienced has meant we have been unable to fully complete all ground-works required before full planting goes ahead.

However, sufficient has been completed to enable some planting to go ahead. Therefore Saturday 22nd February is still the date we start planting but………. it again depends on the weather !!!!

Therefore please keep up to date via our Facebook page on whether we be able to proceed. This will enable us to inform with up-to-the-minute latest news (please check on Saturday morning before you set out).

Perhaps we would have been better planting rice fields !!

Sapling planting in Cowpark

A National group called “Trees on the Land” encourages voluntary organizations to take part in an annual tree planting day.

Athboy Tidy Towns (ATT) took part last year & our helpers planted 200 saplings in the Cowpark. All who took part found it to be a very positive exercise and all the saplings are doing well.

ATT have again purchased 200 Native Irish saplings (around 30cm high) and are taking part again this year & invite anyone who would like to take part (perhaps to plant a tree for a loved one) to join us in the Cowpark on Saturday 22nd February.

All planting locations will be marked & cleared. ATT will be supplying some spades but it would help if you could bring your own. No heavy digging is required as only a “T” cut is necessary to open the ground to bury the roots.

More detailed information can be found here nearer the date and it will only go ahead if weather conditions are favourable.

Bat Talk & Walk:

ATT was delighted to have hosted A Bat Talk given by Dr Tina Aughney on 13 September 2019.

The event was very well attended with many children taking part in the post talk Bat walk around the town.

Mary Flood opened the event
